1998, Rear End Clunk
There's a heavy metal on metal clunk that comes from the rear end (diff, drive shaft?).
From park, when I shift into reverse, it clunks. If I go back into park and again into reverse (a second try), it won't make a sound. If the car moves in between the tries it will sound, but not as loud. Also does it in drive sometimes.
It is a very heavy metal clunk that happens when the gear engages. The severity seems to depend on whether the car is on an incline or not.
I know it's not the transmission mount since it was changed recently and the sound is coming from the back.
Any ideas?

The guibo looks good to me.
The sound is louder when the car is on an incline. It's becoming progressively louder and sounds very metal on metal.

Best thing to do is get the car up on a drive-on lift, raise it way up and stand under there while someone shifts the vehicle with the car running. Should become apparent where the noise is coming from.

It was the CV Joint in the axle - I don't remember if the inner or outer was bad.
Also, the right side axle is a hair longer than the left. I ended up buying one from a yard, but they sent the wrong side. On second attempt, I got the correct side, but the ABS teeth were slightly deformed. I tried it regardless, and it caused my ABS light to come on at high speeds. Inspect your replacement thoroughly!
Hope this helps someone.

Toronto definitely sees snow, but the car hasn't been winter driven for many years.
Also, there was no audible clicking from the axle, like they usually do when they go bad - only the clunk described above.
