and that's on a 1st gen, the 2nd gen is larger and has more visual presence.

"visual presence" is an opinion, fact is they are almost identical dimensionally.

Thanks for pics BLKonBLK, I actually quite like your stance on 17s to be honest.. hopefully mine will look roughly similar in terms of proportionality I also just ordered my Megans.. can't wait to see how they're gonna look and feel interms of ride. A friend of mine (WhiteIvory), just installed his and he's really pleased so I have next to no doubt I'll be happy with them I'll report back once the Megans and wheels are on

I think that the wheels you chose will look really nice. No one here is going to replace your wheels or tires when you hit a large Montreal pothole. Thus, it seems hard to justify the extra expense of 18 or 19 inch tires and/or wheels (should you need to repair one or more) simply because of looks.

there is minimal difference in 17 vs. 18" wheel pricing (depending on the wheel, new. even less difference for used wheels), and tire prices are relatively comparable as well at this level. its when you start going to odd sizes, wide sizes (>255mm), low aspect (~35/40 or lower) ratios, or soft&sticky compounds that tires become expensive.

last pair of rear tires I picked up for my LS (245/35-20) are so common a size that they're cheaper than the 245/45-18s i would have needed if i was on an 18" wheel (for the same tire model). now if you want to undersize to a more common size (but less protection) for say a 245/40-18 then it's a different story.
