Im anew owner of an 98 LS400 and have honestly fell in love with the car- I bought it to my mechanic to have it checked out and make sure everythings working properly and he said I either need a thermostat or my head gaskets could be gone. Everything else was fine-its a real clean car and he said all teh fluids, brakes etc look good. The temp gauge goes up about 3/4 of the way but doesnt get into the red. I bought it 200 miles from where I live and drove it home with the AC on with no problems. No white smoke or anything coming from the exhaust. Are than any other sign I should look for as far as the head gaskets go- I love the car and would hate to sell it or go about replacing the engine. Anybody had similar problems? BTW car has only 150k miles

Bubbles in the radiator ? Low radiator fluid? Change out the thermostat , it could be unable to open fully. It might be as simple as that
