Default How do you Enable The DRL (day time running lights)?

I'm moving to Canada and I want (actually am required by Canadian law) to enable my day time running lights (DRL).

How could I do this? Where is the running light module located?

Any insight or advice would be very greatly appreciated!

Do you mean the menu button on the steering wheel?

By the way I should have mentioned it's a 98 ls400

Thank you!

I've tried searching for "CBES" settings but haven't found the solution.

I found this CBES manual but it doesn't mention DRLs.

I also found this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...-in-ucf20.html

I'm wondering if the only way is to do enable the DRL is follow that thread in reverse. Also my car is a US vehicle that I bought with disabled DRL .

The only former owner was an 84 year old lady...I doubt she chose to disable it. I think my 98 LS400 may have come from the showroom with disabled DRL.

Thanks for your help.

it probably wasnt disabled, DRLs weren't standard for all US models until '99.

The U.S. specification 1998 LS400 did not have DRL ... it was added in 1999.

DRL is not a CBES setting on the 99-00 US specification LS400.

To make it more "interesting" the DRL/headlight circuit on the 99-00 U.S. specification LS400 works differently than on the 98-00 Canadian specification LS400. For example, on a U.S. spec 99-00 LS400 with DRL, the instrument cluster headlight indicator is "on" (lighted) when the low beam headlights are on. On a Canadian spec 98-00 LS400, the same instrument cluster headlight indicator is on only when the DRL is on.

For the 99-00 US spec LS400 with DRL, a DRL module is in the area behind the glove box. But it is not as simple as that. There are multiple other differences beside the DRL module.

Plenty of people, including my Ontario cousins, import U.S. spec cars into Canada have have had DRL kits installed on some of them. I just looked at Canadian Tire's website and saw that they sell a DRL kit.

You hit the nail right on the head Kansas! You even know what Canadian Tire is...lol!!!

I've got to say I feel like a noob with my new LS400.

My last car a Volvo 850 was another story...I was really good there.

If I buy this kit would it be an easy install? Is it guaranteed to work?

Is there any help you might be able to give me in regards to installing the kit?

Thanks alot!

You'd have to look at the instructions to see how easy it would be to install. There are different types of DRL kits and Canadian Tire isn't the only source. Some DRL kits operate the high beams, some the low beams and others the fog lights.

I mentioned Canadian Tire you would be sure to get an acceptable kit there, because they are official inspection stations for imported cars and they often can do all the work to satisfy Canadian requirements: http://www.riv.ca/ImporterChecklist.aspx

Agreed Canadian tire might be a validate source to get it inspected but they have absolute morons working there.
For my 98 LS the DRL relay is under the drivers side headlight beside the 2 fan relays . The headlight has to be removed to access it.
Also my "lights on" indicator only comes on when I turn atleast the parking lights on , the DRL's have no indicator .
The main differences of the Canadian spec headlights is all are HID and they have washers . Which adds a diode to activate the washers only when the headlights are on. How do I know , I just blew my diode and it has no part number to order after being on the phone for an hour with Toyota Canada trying to get one.

A simple wiring relay can be made so the car turns on the headlights on full when the car is started and the parking brake is off.
Using those add a DRL kits are dicey as they don;t work that great at 1/2 the voltage all of the time. Better to have it activate your headlights fully on instead.
