New wheels on my 96
A few months back I bought a set of Stern ST-5 wheels from ****-adkt I had to figure out what I needed to do in order to clear the front brakes. After messing around with "universal" wheel spacers(garbage), I bought a set of 10mm hub centric billet aluminum spacers off E-Bay with longer wheel studs. The fit was perfect! Just enough to clear the calipers. The rear I left alone. The wheels are 18x8.5 all around. The front tires are 245/45 and the rear are 275/40. There is no rubbing issues at all. I have plenty of room in the rear to fit a wider and/or rim. The front I may be able to go to a 255 but it would most likely just rub the inner fender liner. I guess you could modify the plastic a little but I did not want to mess with that. So here are a couple of pics. Do not mind the rusty rotors and corroded calipers Let me know what you think. -James

The tires have the same circumference. I bought the car as a cruiser, something that is quiet, comfortable and rides nice with decent gas mileage. I have 4WD trucks and a Mustang and after driving those you want something plush. I would like to lower it but I do not want to give up the soft factory ride. If there is a kit that would give me the exact ride as the factory and a little lower then I would lower it a little. I like 20's on these cars but tires are expensive and ride quality is worse and also prone to bending rims due to very little sidewalls. I live in NY so the roads up here are filled with potholes and 20's would not last long. I like these wheels and these would not be my first pick but since I did not want to spend a lot of money on rims, I got these from a member here for a good price. I hopefully will be doing some cosmetic stuff like adding exhaust tips, JDM tail lights, aftermarket headlights and so on but for now it is my cruiser.
Thanks, James

I definitely hear u on the 20s and potholes up here in NY, that's where I live as well and I'm riding 99 LS stock rims, wouldn't even think for a second to put 20s up here....if I was in florida, that would be a different story.....thought u were downsouth for some reason but definitely NYs potholes are notorious and I see people with cracked/ bent rims all the time

And actually, ride quality doesn't diminish that much going from stocks to 20s, especially since ours cars are so heavy. I have 20s with a 35 profile and before I lowered it, I couldn't tell much of a difference from stock - it's the lowering (and the settings thereof) that more or less affects ride quality. Trust me, we have terrible roads where I drive (So. Illinois and especially around St. Louis) and I was worried about that too - but once you actually try it, you'll see it's not so bad. I was skeptical too at one point
But like sik96ls400 said, that is one VERY clean ride. And like I said before and so have others, if you're happy, that's all that matters.
