HELP 91 ls400 only have 1st and 3rd gears
hi i am a owner of a 91 ls400 and my transmisson is not shifting properly, for instance when i leave a stop light i have to put it in second cause if i dont it will go 1st to O/D lock up i supose, but when i put it in second it just acts like it goes from 1st to 3rd so i have a lil more power, The O/D light flashed on the dash!!!
but ever once inawhile if i drive the car for a few it will shift just fine! and the O/D light will not flash
i alson have a trac light on also? possible just the wheel sensors i suppose?

Depending on the color of the transmission fluid, my next guess would be: solenoid valves #1 & #2 located in the transmission oil pan. You can find them online for about $150 shipped. I had the same issues, with the gear shifting and the O/D light flashing but if i were you, id check the fluid first, followed by the check-engine-light codes (the number of blinks on the OD light). Use www.lexls.com

Check airflow to the radiator. Take the air snorkel off and look between the condenser and radiator. If there are debris clear it out. Flush coolant if it has not been done and new thermostat.
