bottom end of a vvti 1uz (btw, if you want to swap your LS to the vvti engine, you NEED an engine out of a 98-00 LS400, the GS has a different sump configuration) is as weak as the 2uz, skinny rods started in '95, the thicker rods you're talking about are only found in 89-94 1uzs (in the LS) and up to 95 in the SC400 (also has a different sump design)
