jbrady, I just had a rock hit my window last week and used a glass guy who repairs small rock chips and cracks. He did a great job and gauranteed that the crack would not spread. The spot with the chip cannot be found after his work. I was really pleased and the cost of $55 was great. I would suggest you look into this type repair. He also said that some insurance companies will reimburse 100% of the cost with no marks against number of claims. Good Luck.

kjbro,

Thanks for the tip. Actually I have had cracks repaired before and this windshield has a repair. One situation that is inevitable on cars are the tiny chips in the winshield that accumulate with miles. You can see them when driving into the sun, they show up as hundreds (if not thousands) of tiny white dots. I would like a NEW winshield so that the car feels and LOOKS new! Also, the crack is very unusual in that it is at an angle in the glass. The actual crack line looks wide because of this angle ( aprox 45 degrees to perpendicular. With crack repair they drill a small hole at each end of the crack to disperse the stress and stop the crack from growing. With this angled crack that technique would be compromised.

No problem...just was impressed with the work done on my LS400 and wanted to offer my thoughts.
