Air suspension problem
My 96 LS 400 inadvertently sinks down when turned off. Sometimes the back drops...sometimes the front drops....sometimes the whole car settles down. Because of the random nature of the sinking, I don't think one of the shocks is leaking, seems more like a central control of some sort. Anyone have any experience with this or insight?

If your car sinks after you turn off, then the shocks are leaking (it's not holding in air). The reason you don't notice it sagging when driving is because compressor is keeping up with the rate of leak; but once car is off (compressor is off too) the car will sink. If you don't replace the shocks, and the leaks become larger, eventually you might burn out the compressor (because it is constantly pumping to keep up with the leaks while car in motion), making the repair even more $$$ (you will need new shocks and compressor then).
I too have a 96, and air shocks went around 150K miles. I replaced with 4 Arnott rebuilds. But if you don't want to sink $1500 than go for a $ 600 coilover kit (Arnott or anyone else's). Hard to replicate OEM air ride, but still feels pretty compliant on hydraulic struts (I have a 95 on regular suspension so I have good comparison).
