Power Antenna Problem-Help Appreciated
Hey folks,
After repairing my upper control arms, it's time to move on to the next problem. The motor for my antenna extension tries to extend it past its limit every time i power up the radio. The motor sounds fine until the antenna is fully extended, after which it sounds like it is growling. It continues for about 10 seconds, and then stops, not to start again until next time I power the car up. Antenna retraction has never been a problem.
Any suggestions? I don't know much about electrical problems, but if it's mechanical I think I can fix it. Overconfidence till I bust!

My first thought was to think the cable is too short such that the end of it is rubbing against the gears causing the sound. With not enough tension, the motor doesn't think it's fully extended and continues to run until it times out. But since it retracts with out issue, I'm not sure. Maybe one side of the cable teeth are worn at the point where the mast is fully extended??
Follow the instructions in this thread to remove the mast to inspect the cable condition:

Replaced and had the growl
After replacing my antenna I had the same problem when I turned off my car. The antenna would come down and make the growl noise. I just lived with it.. Now it is broken again so I may get another after market antenna and move on. I was thinking... Is there a way to get a modern antenna setup that does not require the "antenna"?
