92 LS400 with AIRY BIG FAN BLOWING sound when Rev'd???
Ok so my car runs great and i did the muffler delete mod already and it sounds good at low revs 2k-3k. But when i stomp on it(high revs)while driving and/or just rev it while i'm parked, the AIRY BIG FAN BLOWiNG sound of the engine cancels out the nice V8 exhaust sound!!!! Does anyone else have this issue??? My speculation is because it has that big mechanical fan connected to the engine instead of an electrical fan, like on newer models. i'm not sure though, am i correct? It's always made that sound since i bought the car.

Thanks python, where is the fan clutch located at? Do you think it's a fairly easy fix? Is it pricey if i buy a new one? i tried to use the search button but didn't find any tutorials on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Some people have removed the mechanical fan and replaced with an electric one I think there is a tutorial on www.lextreme.com

Koo, thanks for the info steve2006. i think i'll give that conversion a try. Has anyone here on CL have any problems with that conversion? i just plan on tapping into the ignition wire without using a relay. i'm not too electrically inclined.

Fan clutch issues
Hi. I'm new to the forums. i had my fan clutch changed about 3000 miles ago. My Ls still makes that noise for the first 20-30mph then the sound goes away. Is that normal? Any idea of what might be wrong with it? Thanks in advance.

I have a 90 LS and I don't have a constant fan noise at all. I have had the exact problem you are speaking of on a previous vehicle though. My old 2003 Explorer had the fan clutch go out and the fan then spun at the same RPM as the engine at all times instead of being regulated by the fan clutch. When I was accelerating from a stop it sounded like a 747 was taking off, LOL.
If you look at the main cooling fan, you will see the metal fan clutch assembly in the center of the fan. It's not that expensive a part and you should be able to remove it and replace it with a new one fairly easily. That will take care of the problem.
