MY 1994 LS 400 misses at idle and at cruise. I did change the ECU caps. Please update if you solve your similar problems.

Was a solution ever found? My 94 LS400 started surging when past 60% throttle a week or so ago, right after I changed the oil.

Smile Surging and losing power

W Murphy, about 4 years ago,I had the same problems you described with my '93 LS400.My brother was trying to help me fix it and the more he tried, the worse it got.I told him not to touch the TPS but he did anyway. And I chewed him out for it.I told him it was factory set. Finally I took it to the Toyota dealership and even they could not fix it.But I knew through the process of elimination that it was in deed the TPS.I bought a new one on Ebay, installed it myself but you have to get it set exactly the way it was at the factory.I lucked out and reset it right on the money with no test equipment. It is a very ticky job and it takes great patience. Each time I moved the sensor ever so slightly,I would rev the engine up until it stopped cutting out. After I finally got it set just right,I test drove the car and you can tell when it's set just right when you're driving.I did have to test drive about 2 or 3 times before I got it right. So it's not an easy job.Just trial and error.Patience will fix it.Just don't get mad and give up.
The TPS is set at the factory and no one is supposed to touch it ever.So guys, don't waste your money buying all other kinds of parts because they won't fix the problem. It's just getting the TPS set just right.I don't claim to be a know it all.And I'm not a mechanic. But I do have experience with that TPS.Just trying to help.Good luck.

It's not that dire. If you have a simple ohmmeter, you can adjust it quite easily. If I had my manual with me, I could be more helpful, but basically, you want the idle circuit to show continuity until the throttle is cracked open.

did you try cleaning the mass air flow sensor? Or maybe replacing it off cleaning doesn't work
