just found this thread and after changing my air filter over the weekend i have a question...

With that opening to the left, are you not worried about water getting in during driving in heavy rain conditions?

JBrady,

Nice work! I had my 94 apart the other day & my mechanic wanted to mod the intake past the AFM in the portion before the Throttle Body.

On my 94 there is a hushbox with a rectangular opening beneath the intake conduit.

I would buy the heat shield from you if you decide to go into production.

talk about dragging up an old thread.

Im interested in the suggestion of reshaping the afm on the 1st gens.

Anymore detail would be greatly appreciated.

Hey maybe spray all the plastic pieces of the intake system with Heat resistant spray paint??

Just to help lower temps a little?

Cant you put a 1999 Lexus GS400 K&N Performance Air Intake into a 1999 Lexus LS400?

I know this is an old thread but I would have to see dyno results back to back before I hack up my intake. I doubt it makes any more than 5 horsepower. Until I see dyno numbers this is just another free mod to make cool noises!

What do you mean it doesnt fit? They both have the same engine. What about the 1999 Lexus GS400 K&N Perormance Air Intake that will not fit into a 1999 Lexus LS400? There both 1UF-ZE engines.

Just because they are the same engine type, doesn't mean the engine bay is arranged the same, bud.

i mean it DOES NOT FIT.

It physically does NOT fit into the LS' engine bay, there isnt really anything more to add there. the 2LS actually has a SMALLER (lengthwise) engine bay than the 2GS because the GS engine bay was designed for a 2JZ inline 6, which is several inches longer than the 1UZ.

Wow, back from the grave...

I tested this at the racetrack back to back with a stock cover running 4 passes each way with a 1/2 mph increase in speed which is a clean 5 rwhp.

The GS400 uses a square/rectangular filter where the LS400 uses a round filter with more total filter area. The OEM LS400 filter is the best filter I am aware of for our cars, MUCH better IMO than the K&N as that has substancially less filter area.

Painting the parts with heat reflective resistent paint can't hurt.

Make certain to create good foam heat sealing parts.

I have driven my car this way for 100k miles at times in HEAVY rain and never had any problem. I think the shape of the headlight area blocks most of the water.
