if you don't have the rocker switches next to the shifter, do you have any form of the air suspension? only reason i ask is that under the hood there is an obvious air compressor that has to power something. my 93 ls400 was purchased in cananda and in the manual it say it doesent have the adjustable air suspension. but does it still have air shocks? thanks for the input.

According to the manual the a/s is not offered on Canadian model. If there's no switch then there's no a/s system or struts. Are you sure you're not mistaking it for the ABS controller?

Couple of things you will know if you have AS or not.
1. Hi-Normal Switch by the tranny shifter
2. Sport-Normal switch by the tranny shifter.
3. Instructment cluster should say Normal or high at the left hand side.
4. On the freeway cruising about 85 mph, the "Normal" height should automatically switch to "Low"
5. While you starting the car, you might hear some pumping noise.
6. If your car sag after a long park (only if the AS strut is broken)
7. When you jack your car up and lowering it down, the car is standing lower than before or you have a hard time getting the jack out.
8. A switch in the emergency kit box.
If you see one of the above signs, than you have an AS system. If you dont, you have standard suspension.
good luck

Well I'm set to replace the LR air strut, got a new one from Carson Toyota. I have been using Daven3's technique of setting the car to hi before parking and it worked well for the interim. Finally I broke down and bought a new strut.
I can take some pics of the install if anyone is interested, post back and I'll do them this weekend.

I have noted the common complaints people online seem to mention regarding their air suspension, however, it seems to me that there is not any one general area of complaint, other than replacement costs. Some have leaks in different places, others have other componant failures. From this I conclude that the system is not really a bad one at all, but rather, people have had a variety of issues over a variety of model years over a variety of mileage. My '95 LS, 140K, also suffers from an occasional sagging left rear overnight. The dealer says no codes, no problems. In the meantime, it sure feels good sinking down on the road!
