ABS Light, Hard to steer, wont shift out of park
Hello,
I drive a 1995 LS400 and while driving today i felt the steering wheel getting harder to turn. Once i put it into park it doesnt let me shift back into drive. I also noticed that my ABS light came on. Has anyone experienced these problems? If so, please help.
Thank you.

Wow! Sounds like multiple issue to me. Steering would have to be a belt or pump ( I think pumps were kind of sketchy after 150k, usualy). There is a solenoid that allows shifter to leave park, that is engaged by the brake pedal. That may give you an ABS code. This solenoid may be dirty and gunked up...time to relube mechanism. I have never seen this on Lexus, but a few Toyota LC's.

The brake light switch bthomas referred to is at the top of the brake pedal. I've had one go out on an LS which prevented the gear shift lever from moving out of Park. If you can use the shift override button near the gear lever to get the gear shift out of Park, the brake light switch is a likely culprit.

My 1994 LS400 has the same problem. ABS light on all the time, can't get out of park into drive (unless I hold the shiftlock override button down), steering harder to turn plus battery not charging. I have checked all the fuses, they are OK. Removed the alternator, bench tested it under load, works fine so put it back in. All connections are clean and OK. So what on earth could it be?
