Hi jbrady hi everyone!!!
As I promise there is more info and pictures about mod intake in my 1991 LS 400.

1. As you can see that mod is invisible when you look at engine.

2. After remove plastic cover you could see that big hole I made in front air filter cover.

3. That is how looks engine compartment after air filter removing

4. That looks that two opening: one for head lamps and that small square is for side marks.
Everything else is pure steel sheets

5. from that vertical hole (right as radiator ends) come most of additional fresh cold air

6. Same vertical hole as you look from front of vehicle (left as radiator ends)

7. Yes, there could be some heat shield (look between ABS unit and end of radiator (I thinking use some foam or something else)

8. Hey jbrady! Air filter had about 24 cm (it is 9.5 inch?)

Make that mod ,enjoy that mod: it really works for me, and works good!!!!!

Thanks for making the effort to document and share your mods on a 1st gen LS400. Hopefully it will encourage others. Obviously I agree with you... GREAT mod!

I still wanna try out the Ingen intake on the 1st gen before I go cutting the plastic. Had no chance to go there since I have no lisence right now. Good job on it though.

Just did the same mod with a bigger hole and took the entire intake tubing all the way up to the throttle body and cleaned my throttle as well. I did all this for fun today before my final to relieve some stress lol... havent driven the car yet though.

Eric, do you mean that you cleaned all the tubing up to an including the throttle or that you modified the parts?
