On my '90 LS400 with 100K miles, I had the intermittent TRAC light problem (never an SES light). Checked the codes (pre OBDII) by jumpering the diagnostic link under the hood - the code that blinked out indicated a leak in the traction control system ??? The Lexus shop manuals were not much help....

I could not find the problem - until I started losing PS fluid and blue smoke at startup. Found the engine blue smoke solution reading through this forum. Changed the idle control valve on the PS pump - and no more smoking at start up... and TRAC light has been off ever since.

BTW, I replaced the PS pump 1 year earlier, but elected not to replace the idle control valve since I felt it was too expensive for such a minor looking part - mistake.....

Rerouting the idle control valve stopped the engine smoking but did not fix the TRAC light...

I never did figure out how the PS and TRAC system interact

Your mileage may vary....
