Power steering fluid, alt was completely covered. My battery was only a few months old so I didn't think it was that but I bought a new battery anyway, just so I could drive home. I was lucky, the first time it broke down it was about 2 blocks from an Advanced Auto, and I had $100 in my pocket that day.

When I first got my LS4 the biggest issue was the battery. Wouldn't hold a charge to save a life. I had to remove the negative battery cable whenever I drove it to conserve whatever charge it had. Worked but annoying, especially if you're running late and have to catch a bus! But I digress. Finally the battery would not hold a charge period. Took it out and had it tested - dead dead deadsky. Did a bunch of research and found out about the PS pump leaking into the alt and causing it to short. Tested the alt and it was fine, passed "with flying colors" the guy told me. Not that I didn't trust him, but I took it to three places total to have it tested. Same result each time. Pass, Pass, Pass. Hmmm...?

Put in a new battery and it could sit for days. At least for a little while anyways...

Battery lost the full charge. Jumped just fine. Huh. I already knew that the stereo was installed by someone who thought they knew what they were doing. So I disconnected the power to it. Same thing. I started fishing around looking at stuff. Then I started looking at the power inverter/av hook up in the back seat. Traced the wires to their origins and wouldn't you know it, it was hot wired into the ignition. It was not properly grounded so the on/off switch did not work and therefor it was constantly sucking juice. It was a 500 watt inverter so you figure it out.

Anyways, I yanked that sucker out and have not had a problem since. The point of my long post is to check whatever after market installs you or any previous owner has done. I'm fairly competent and have installed many stereos, but one time my dimmer controls started dimming my parking lights because I mixed up a couple of wires! It was kind of cool and a little novelty but I'm using it to illustrate my point. Check your install.

Hello

I just wanted to reply with a positive answer. I just got my new remanufactured denso alternator and installed it today. a 2 hour job and took my time with some other things also, and now its charging with 14.30 volts so its working like it should now :-)

New battery, new alternator, ready for the winter :-)

Just curious, how much did the battery and the alternator cost?

Got the alternator from ebay, $152 with free shipping inside US. I bought the battery here in Denmark for about $220.

Well when i removed the bad alternator i found out that it was actually labeled remanufatored denso made in usa. I dont know how old it is but i didnt hold that good then :-( Hope they did this one better.

But what model is your battery? Theres alot of difference. I bought a big Varta battery 95amp 850cca and its one of the good series. A blue one. Should be better than normal.
