Door to gas cap inop
When I pull the lever to open the gas cap door nothing happens. Is this more likely the switch or the solenoid on the door. Also, can you get to the solenoid thru the trunk?
Thanks

Most likely it is the contact behind the switch that has gone up. Happened on my 92. In most of them, you SHOULD be able to open the gas door (manually) with a release grip in the trunk, closest to the gas door. It looks like the, what is best described, as the emergency trunk release that alot of cars have. If yours is missing, and it may be, look behind the paneling on that side. It may be a wire with what looks to be a tag attatched, or may just be a sliver colored wire (tag may have fallen off). You will have to pull this and the door should pop right open. Fron there, if you plan on replacing just the selonoid, you will have to remove the nut off the selenoid(once the door pops open) and feed the rest of it back in thru the trunk. Pretty easy to do,,takes a few minutes. Is a good, cheap (provided you can find one at your local boneyard) part to replace. If the contact has gone up behind the switch, such as my case, that is gonna involve a little more work to fix. I never bothered to fix mine. Pretty much just pop mine open manually when i get gas. I look at it as another theft device that no one would bother to look at in plain sight. LOL!!

To trukn1,
I found that release cable and from there how to get at the solenoid. With the gas cover door open the solenoid system works fine. The problem is that the cover door itself is sprung and causes such pressure on the solenoid plunger that it can't move. I'll deal with that tomorrow. I may end up just using the release cable in the trunk as you do.
Thanks for the help.
