Default wood steering wheel

hey guys, did some searching and found this

post 10

about wood steering wheels with cracks, from the looks of it they were originally smooth and cracked from heat?

i recently drove a ls that had cracks on the wheel, seemed very annoying compared to my wifes wood steering wheel in her car which is smooth.

basically i was wondering if lexus ever made them like that or did it truly crack from age/heat?

the reason im asking is because the cracks were very well placed i guess you could say, they were almost every 3/4 of an inch apart.

they never came cracked obviously the cracks are a function of age and wear.
