No electronics issue unlike high-end 94 LS. Keep in mind, I have an extra ECU in my garage. LOL. As far as your cluster, couple hours of replacing capacitors would make her bright and shine to you again. LOL

so Yea thanks for the tips and help . The Lexus is back on the road after I replaced all the bad caps.couldn't of done it with out you and this site. Yes I got 18 inch staggered with my "custom" air bags. Stock air bags I just linked the front to a valve aswell as the back.. doesn't work real good as the bags leak a little but I don't have the money for adjustable struts ...thanks again KAYUWONG

Good job. Recently I sold my extra ECU to another local LS owner, his symtoms are NO AC and can't rev over 2000 rmp, black smoke, rough idle and running rich on fuel. Simple plug and try, everything is good to go. I opened up his ECU and checked, spotted one bad has a little yellow/brown goo at one of the caps.

please remember, when servicing the ECU caps, these 4 critical points:

1. replace ALL of the electrolytic capacitors, even the ones that appear to be fine, they don't have to be obviously leaking to be bad - there are typically only 6 or 7 in total - the 98-00 models have 10.

2. make sure the caps you use are LOW ESR type and 105C rated and voltage is at least the original rating.

3. stick with high end Japanese caps - Rubycon, Nippon Chemicon, Panasonic, Nichicon.

4. be very careful with the 4 ribbon cables that attach the two mainboards, if one of these comes partially loose then you have created yourself a lot more work.

@compx

YES!

you have a very high probability of the ECU capacitors being your issue, even though you see no goo, working with Japanese ECU designer yamae, I have finally been able to explain to the folks here on Club Lexus how this is a huge design defect in the LS400 and many other Japanese vehicles, when they get over 12 years old.

please see my very thorough thread on replacing your ECU capacitors for full information!
