Default Programming a key for a 1999 LS400, is this correct?

Tried this procedure below and it doesn't seem to be working. Is it correct?

A. Before starting the programming procedures, make sure to SET UP the vehicle as follows.
1. Remove Key from ignition
2. CLOSE AND LOCK ALL THE DOORS (this is the missing step)
3. Manually unlock and open the driver's door only
---------------------------------------------------------------

1. Driver's door OPEN and unlocked, all other doors closed and locked.
2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, remove key.
3. Using the MANUAL lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly
press
lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times).
4. Shut door.
5. Open door.
6. Using the lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock
and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times).
7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to on
position (DON'T START), wait 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key.
8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once). If
they
don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over.
9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second,
release.
The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower.
10. Close the door. Open the door. Press the lock button on the remote.
The locks should cycle. Close the door. Press the lock button on the
remote, the doors should lock. Press again and the doors should
unlock.

The official key programming instructions have been posted many times in the past including by me in the following thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...y-dilemma.html

Taking shot here. Is it possible to reprogram a 2002 Lexus sc430 Emergency Flat key for a 1999 LS400? The emergency flat key for the sc430 allows you start the engine while the emergency Flat key for the LS400 does not have the option. There is a chip built into the sc430 emergency flat card so just wondering if it can be programmed to work with an older model.

Thank you!

Please let us know if you are able to successfully get the lock/unlock feature to work via the remote. I have tried the official instructions but never could get the lock/unlock buttons to work on my replacement key. I was able to get it to start the car but the buttons are still unresponsive. Very curious if you can get it to work. thanks

There's a link to the '98-00 key programming pdf in the UCF2x FAQ (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-...questions.html)

There's also a helpful note about following those instructions. I've used it myself a few times over the years and can confirm they work.

For some reason it won't work on my 99

Once I get to f and press the 2 buttons, then the lock button nothing happens.

Maybe cuz the chip in here isn't compatible? https://www.remotesremotes.com/product-p/L_1512V-4BTN-KEY.htm?gclid=CjwKCAjw-8nbBRBnEiwAqWt1zdaE9XnpXVWlpT_gMQi5jVFBVyCjq3iElDqqB4MBFKtrejvESb5qAhoCNbEQAvD_BwE

Got it from here

Chips need to match.Threads on here to tell what chip you have, and what to order when you order a new transponder if yours arent matched. My fob reads HYQ1512V on my 98,sounds to me you have the right transponder. Maybe try some of the other peoples instructions and try those? There are some variations that have worked for others.

You may need help from Yamae.

Where is the HYQ1512V located on the master key? my 20 year old oem master key does not have any markings on it., I also ordered a replacement key a awhile ago but have not been able to get it to unlock/lock the car. I was able to get it to start the car successfully. Wondering if i ordered the wrong key?

thanks

if i'm not mistaken, the hyq1512v refers to the remote lock/unlock radio transmitter. there's also a transponder chip that is the key part of the security. those keys with the remote unlock built in the handle have both a radio transmitter for the remote lock/unlock, that uses the battery, and a transponder chip for enabling the starter, that is rfid-like in operation. if the battery went dead in the remote portion of it, one could still open the car with the key, and start the car, since it is the transponder in the key that connects with that system. you were able to get it to start the car, which means that the programming for the transponder was sucessful. i imagine you need to run the same setup for the remote lock/unlock the same way it is done with stand alone remote controls. it won't affect the transponder.

Will this work for just a key? I only have one key and I want to get another just in case. Can I program a key without the remote?

for keys that you want to be able to start your car with, you need to program the transponder recognition into the security system. the remote control for the doorlocks is a separate system. you can get as many keys cut as you like, and they will unlock your doors and the trunks by using them, but until the transponder in the key head is recognized to the security system, they won't start the car.

I think I am realizing my confusion. It seems to me that I only have a valet key. The main key has the transponder on it right?

valet keys also do have transponders in them, but they are cut differently so they cannot be used on the gas/trunk lock switch, the glove box, or the trunk. this is so the valet can enter the car, using the key, and start and drive the car in his job, but cannot unlock the gas/trunk lock, if the lock button is pushed, nor get into the trunk or glove box, if the glove box is locked with a master key. i think 1998 and on, lexus went to using keys with the remote controls built in, before, just key and remote separate as a fob. if the key you have can open/unlock all of the above, then it's a master.
