Talking New guy here! ^.^

Hey guys, the name is Aaron. I have a 1996 LS 400 w/ 256k miles.
This was my dads old car and was a hand me down. (he got a ls430)
But none the less I fell in love with the car and its V8 under the hood. Ive been wanting to mod the car here for about a week. Ive been digging around on the internet for about three days now and really havnt found any useful information or part sites. So I was just wondering if you guys had any useful websites that you could recommend to me. I think my first project is going to be droping in a new air intake. Any suggestions on that?

Here are some of my other questions (constructive criticism welcome)
-What generation/model of the 1uz-fe does the 96' ls400 have in it?
-I also am looking for more acceleration out of the door. (the car is 100% OEM parts)
-One more thing. Turbo or Supercharger?

Thanks alot guys. ^.^
I post some pictures tomorrow to show you guys what I am working with.

Welcome to ClubLexus. In addition to the links RA40 gave you, the "Search" bar at the top of the forum (and the advanced search option) will help you a lot.

You sound pretty young, given the questions you're asking. Let's make this clear: unless you have both significant amounts of both fabrication and automotive racing based knowledge and resources, or gratuitous amounts of money, you aren't going to get your car to go much faster than you will by just getting it up to speed on maint.

-you have the 1UZ generation between the early (89-94) and later (98-00). Skinny rods, interference heads, slight power bump over early cars, big power difference to later cars.
-see above. just make sure it's at spec, then do the suspension if you'd like. Exhaust and intake together (all custom work) will net you <10-15hp, so you wouldn't even feel it.
-depends on what you want and if you have ~$12-20k to spend, since to get any meaningful power you'd need to build the block and then have everything else custom made.

intakes do nothing but loose power. exaust is very restrictive though. will you feel the difference probly not.

properly designed and made intakes may give a modest increase, but there arent any sold on the market.

Your better off droping it first & worrying about engine mods later, and turbo or supercharging it is gunna cost alot of money on first building the engine then buying ur setup plus tunning lots of work but either way good luck hope to c this turn out good

Plus as I understand it the LS transmisison is good to about 400hp. That is a pretty big increase over stock, but that 's important to understand.
