If there is a problem with the steering U joint and could be a safety loss of control issue then it should be a recall on all cars that are affected. Loss of steering could cause loss of life and that is a for sure recall.

Did you replace 45260-50060 yet? Did it fix the steering column rattle? I have the same issue on 2000 LS

I did not replace it yet, waiting on my mechanic to have a free second.

also I wouldn't call my issue just a "steering column rattle" it's an obnoxious noise that resembles the noise your bed makes when a fat chick is jumping up and down on it 😊

I had a similar sound on the in-law's RX. It was the rubber boot where the base of the steering shaft passes through the firewall. I lubricated the contact area between the shaft and the rubber boot and the noise disappeared. Their's was making noise with the wheels in the air and on the ground so it may not be your solution but it's an easy thing to try.

I replaced those bushings (rack insulators) couple years ago and was surprised how much tighter things got, a lot less play in the steering wheel when going over bumps, rough road, etc.
I had bought the intermediate shaft as well as the yoke, but never installed them, since those rubber bushings sort of fixed the problem.
Surprisingly, the old bushings didn't look bad, but I instantly felt the difference after new ones went in.
