a full exhaust + headers won't net you those gains, you would need some sort of fuel controller and a proper tune to get the most out of it.
Do you recommend anybody for ecu tuning?
I've mostly dealt with Honda's so I don't know anybody that deals with Toyota/Lexus ecu's.
I'm willing to have it sent out of state (I'm from Missouri), but I'm also going to look locally.
Its going to be a long time before I can pull off a build without my wife getting... upset.
At least that gives me time to plan and find resources.

you can't realy tune the factory ECU at all. the lex/toy ecu has never been officially "Cracked" like the honda/nissan/everything else.

either need to go piggyback (SAFC Neo/FIC/etc...) or full Standalone EMS (AEM, Megasquirt (not for obdii though...), MoTec, etc...).

I don't know. I think I'd rather build the snot out of a S2K.
I'll have a while to think about it though.

I used to work as a mechanic in the military and my platoon sergeant used to jokingly say that if he painted an H on the front of all the trucks that I'd be able fix them all by myself.

My wife wants to build a del sol for herself.
It might be easier if we both have Honda's.

I don't know... I'm so conflicted. I love the LS400's engine and I'm intrigued by the idea of having a build LS400, but I'm intimidated because its so out of my comfort zone. I like having to pick from dozens of manufactures for parts as opposed to having to diligently search for even one.

if you're worried about parts availability swap to a 2jz. (or buy an SC/GS300)

Hmmm... that sounds intriguing. Did any of the SC300s or GS300s have manual transmissions or would I have to get one from a supra?

I'm going to keep my eyes out for a 92-95 SC300 with a 5 speed.
Is it easier to modify Lexus' if they're OBD1?
Please excuse my noobism.

Default Headers for !UZ

From the research I have done and other posts I have read, you can use performance headers for the 4.7 with slight modification to the firewall. There is always the other option of buying a header kit from Jegs and building them to your specifications. Of course this would require the proper equipment. Also, you can purchase a mock up kit from Stainless Headers MFG. This will allow you to figure everything out and send them back with a mock up that they build for you.

the 4.7 headers don't work with the SC, LS, or GS applications at all, they foul in multiple places.

having 1-off headers made is always an option but rarely a cost-effective one.
