Default 1998 LS 400 VSC issue?

Hi,
In snow or when the wheels lose traction, I can hear a clunky sound coming from I am assuming the wheels, if I turn the VSC off, the wheels spin but no noise. It almost seems to feel like something is slipping when VSC is engaging. Suggestions?

thanks in advance

you better leave it off until you can have it checked ... UNLESS... someone here has been thru this issue... and will give us their experience... (I am watching this for my 99)

U knw what vsc is rite? and when you press it, it turns ur traction control off allowing free wheel spin. Also when turned on, the noise is the traction contol hitting brakes on the spinning wheel. Now it should be very obvious noise but like a spring being hit to make noise. When u say clunking its a lil hard to knw what exact noise is it. Hope it helps

sounds like normal VSC operation unless you can be more descriptive. possibly some rear caliper noise? when was the last time you did rear pads/rotors?

Although an older model my 1994 LS400 has traction control and when it operates it sounds like a regular dull thumping noise coming from the rear.
It is perfectly normal for this to happen and is a result of the wheel gripping then slipping and the brakes being automatically applied to individual rear wheels in an attempt to gain traction.
To be honest it's pretty much useless in snow.

I agree sounds like its normal VSC. I would have your brakes checked out just in case you need a little peace of mind. keep in mind you have a censor in your pads, so the can get a bit spendy if your not expecting it.
