my 1996 LS400 is SLOW like a Yugo, why?
I have a 1996 LS400 with 116K, my girlfriend has a 1996 Acura RL with a 3.5L V-6 with 140K, her car will snap your neck back when you get on the gas, whereas with my LS400, it's like a 1980's heavily pollution controlled no-power land barge!
the car has new plugs, wires, caps, rotors, and the CEL is not on.
the plug wires have been triple verified as being connected correctly on both ends
compression is very good in each cylinder and car uses no oil, so I am thinking it must be in "limp-home" mode with the timing being retarded due to some malfunctioning sensor somewhere, any ideas on things that could cause a car to run decently yet have no power?
it's like I have the parking brake on or something, the 0-60 time of this car is supposed to be 7.7 seconds and I bet it is more 12!

I'd second checking the timing. I had an old car that apparently jumped a tooth on a worn timing chain. It ran exactly as you describe.
I happen to own both the cars you mention, same years and all. They are close in power around town with a slight edge going to the LS400. How I wish Honda had developed a V8 for the first generation RL.

You don't have some big heavy wheels on there do ya? 200# audio system? Both those together are performance eaters.

air filter is new, MAF has been cleaned using approved cleaner, running Premium, ECU has been unplugged (actually, if you disconnect the negative battery cable for an hour, it is like pulling ALL of the fuses.
