Default Will 98 seats fit a 95

Hello all! Pretty new to this forum, been lurking for awhile, but haven't posted much.

So will a 98-00 ls400 driver's seat fit a 95-97? I tried searching this topic, but couldn't find anything conclusive. The seats themselves look the same, but wondering if the wiring is different. Thanks for the help!

Yes, it will bolt in perfectly, BUT the wiring is different, the plug-ins are alike but the wires will have to be changed so everything will line up, plus your 95 did not have an air bag and the 98up do, so it will not be used.
hope you understood what I said....

cool thanks for the response! By the wires being different, do you mean that wires running the same pathways in each seat are for different functions? So there would be alot of cut/splice to do?

back when I was going to try that, I thought I might see if all the same color wires were in each plugin, and then rearrange them to match up...... and hope it would work.... but I got in a bind time wise and didnt make the switch, so I never knew..... maybe you can and let us know..

So would 95-97 be an exact fit and also all the wiring be the same? I have tried car-part.com but when I try to interchange it all they come up with is 95 seats to fit the 95. It would help if I could widen my search to 95-97 if all three years of seats are exactly the same.

I am going to look at a 95 tomorrow that needs at least the driver seat if not front passenger as well. Ironically I also found replacement seats from a '98, too! Would rather have an exact fit in all ways. I got the answer that 98 up wont' be exactly the same in the wiring, etc. Now I just need to know if 95-97 is all exactly the same.

97 has the side impact airbags, so that is one of the ways they are different than the 95. not sure about 96 tho.

95 and 96 then. I think I just read it wrong. My bad. Even if it is only one extra year beyond 95, it could help me a lot in finding a seat. Thx for the prompt reply pearl. I didn't mean to set off your "automatic notification via email" after just getting a response via PM that you didn't end up trying any conversion. My bad

Mspearl, were you able to find out if this conversion would work? ANY info would be great.

Well I found a set online to buy. It's advertised as 98-00 but when I called him, he said that they didn't have air bags on the sides. then I asked him what year they came out of and he said, "well whatever the ad says." SMH... I'll go look at them on Saturday and probably bring them home either way. I'm sure I can figure it out. Maybe I'll track down the circuitry for both.

Just remember if the seat has a side airbag and you are messing with changing the wiring one wrong move could set off the airbag and if your face just happens to be close by it will mess with your face.

isn't it cheaper to reupholster the seats, then trying to find better looking ones? I would imagine that a mobile automotive upholster would be well priced.

Well folks it turns out he didn't know what year car these cam out of. The seats didn't have airbags - bingo! He had them advertised 98-00 but they came off of a 95-96 which worked out great for my 96. $250 for a set of front and rear factory seats... not bad at all! thanks everyone for your input.
