Selling my 1994 LS400
Sadly, I may have to sell my 94 LS400 after numerous issues have started to surface. Most recently, my car suddenly started to run extremely rough and unfortunately 20 miles away from home. I pulled over 10 miles to inspect the car looking for any serious issues under the hood as it appeared there was a burnt rubber smell coming from the engine bay. My biggest fear was that my temperature gauge has been broken for about a year and I could hear a knocking noise coming from the water pump through the use of a long screwdriver to the body of the part before I set off on my 20 mile trip and I overheated the engine and possibly caused a head gasket leak. Probably not the wisest decision to set off on the trip, but I wanted to get it back to work on the problem. A quick check through the use of the wire to TE1 and E1 terminals I received error codes of bad temperature sensor, running rich and running lean. I have yet to check compression for a head gasket leak, but I did notice that running the engine a few days later and connecting and disconnecting the mass air flow sensor that there was not any change in the rough running of the engine. My question after providing all of this background information is whether the running rich and running lean error codes coincide with a mass air flow sensor defection. Thanks and I wish I would have joined this forum earlier and wish I could hang on to this car longer since the maintenance on this car was impeccable and upon pulling the valve covers 6 months ago to replace the gasket, I've never seen such bronze hue under the covers after 190K miles.

I cant hardly believe what I just read, I would offer you my sympathy, but I feel more sorry for your LS than I do for you. you drove a year with a busted temp gauge, and heard a knocking noise coming from the water pump, you set off on your 20 mile trip and overheated the engine.... dont you have a friend you could call and ask for help?.. I dont think anyone would want to buy a 94 with 190k and a bad engine. but I do hope you have good luck getting rid of it. your story reminds me of the 94 LS I bought (almost free) from the owner, with 233k on the original busted timing belt, I fixed it and drove it a year, 250k, and sold it.

You could always get a junk yard motor for around 600$ I think (last I checked). rebuild it or atleast do all the "never want to do" maintenance with it out of the car like TB, WP and such and swap it in.
When the old one is out you can always rebuild it (if it's salvageable) and sell it for more than you paid for the one you bought or atleast break even.
