Default Tires with g35 rims

Hey CL club,

I just got a cheap set of of g35 18x8 2003-2007 (similar pics below) rims to spruce up my 95 Ls. I want to keep the ride as close to stock as possible. Could someone give me some advice on what tires to put on them? Thanks in advance.

the stock tire size that came with those wheels are 225/50 and 245/45 staggard.
the stock tire size on your 95 LS is 225/60/16 all around.

according to:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
the correct tire size w/o the least speedometer error is 245/45/18 for your LS.

have you actually test fitted those on your car? I dont believe the 18s will clear your brakes. the G35 19s probably will as they were made for brembo equipped cars.

hey ditch2,

These are a few pics of Ls's with the g35's on them. I think they look pretty aggressive without looking silly.

way more than enough clearance with these g35 18" wheels. more clearance than our stock LS wheels too.

clearance check for you

you should run a 225/45/18 all around if you want the stock feel (g35's run 225/45/18 in the front and 245/45/18 in the rear for stock). i ran a 40 series sidewall because i don't want the fat tire look and 35 series on an 18" just looks too small/thin and i'd be on the floor with those.

Thanks Xtreme,

One more question. What brand tire do you like to run? I found out that knowing a little about tires is worse than knowing nothing.

this is coming from my own perspective..

i bought these g35 wheels without tires. i knew that i was going to have some camber wear for driving slammed so it didn't really matter to me which brand of tires i went with, so i got the cheapest i could find. 225/40/18 delinte tires all around for 340 mounted, balanced, and installed. it depends what your situation is really. if you plan to daily drive your car and you aren't lowered or anything, i say go with nice tires if you want some performance too.

if you plan to slam the hell out of it/run stretch/camber etc etc.. dont even think about nice tires because it'll just be a waste of money because you're paying more for nice tires that you'll be eating through quickly.

the last part isnt quite true. I run 4ish degrees of camber in the back and almost 3 in the front and i still run pretty good tires (i loves me some Nitto NT555) and get pretty good mileage out of them. the key factor is to make sure your Toe is properly set and to keep an eye on the camber wear so you flip the tires before you're down to secondary rubber.

this was one of a rear pair of NT555s that went just a hair under 25k @ -3.5* camber and a 1" stretch. could have gone longer if i hadnt taken the car drag racing on them to finish them off lol.

when you say flip the tires, what does that mean? you mean rotate the tires?

no, when you have camber wear you can't rotate your tires as the worn side will always be on the inside.

flipping the tires equates to dismounting the tires and mounting them on the rim on the opposite side of the axle so the worn side is facing out. (non-directional tires can be mounted on the same side with the worn side out).

that's why running assymetrical tires on a stanced car is pointless as you only get ~1/2 the treadlife.

Yup, that's why I am not expecting much from the Conti DW. Maybe 20K miles.
I would suggest a look at the Yokohama S-Drive. A nice performing tire that isn't big $.
