Hell all, I'm Albert. I just picked up a 91 ls400 with 150k miles, so far I figured it needs the following...

oil pan gasket

sound system, Its a pioneer, its nice but it rattles when turned up... maybe I can tighten things up, or perhaps the speakers are blown.

the transmssion seems to be in some sort of limp mode, since it feels like it goes from 1st quickly to 3rd gear... the o/d light flashes which leads me to believe its not working... I'm doing 65 at 2200 rpms... is that normal for overdrive?

anyways I'm looking forward to working on this car, this is the first import I get in a few years since I only drive classic american vehicles.

Welcome Albert.

With any of these, a read through the stickies/FAQ at top of the forum for the common maintenance areas. Post some pics up of your ride.

Welcome to CL and congrats on your first LS. I suspect it will NOT be your last once you've had the experience.

Blown sub woofer is a common problem as you'll find reading through the forum. That might be a good place to start.

In all my years driving an LS I've never had a single transmission problem, including the old 1990 that's old enough to drink in all 50 states. Just great cars and there's a wealth of information here in the archives and in the people, some of which have a depth of knowledge that's spooky.

Good luck with your car and I'll look forward to the pictures.

thank you jim, ill post pics soon i promise... its not as clean as the other LS's on here but its mine and i love it. The Alternator died on me a few days ago so im going to replace that soon, along with the PS pump which caused it to fail.... oh the joys of vehicle ownership

you might want to read the audio setup thread to see about getting a bigger alternator, if you will want to redo the stereo with a much more powerful unit. no sense doing that twice.

thanks denverdog, i went ahead and replaced it with a 200 amp alternator, also did the clorox bottle condom mod, lol... im just going to run a 8 inch sub in the original area until the factory speakers die out. I am working on a few other cars so this one is just a daily driver for now...
