Where to buy OEM struts for '99 LS400?
#16
Just had my oil changed and my mechanic informed me my front passenger strut is going out. He suggested KYB... While searching I found KYB Excel -G Struts for $87.00 a piece at racepages.

Just found a KYB EXCEL-G /GR2 set front & rear at Just Suspension for $325. The amazon went up to $339. After reading the cl reviews and forums it seems the KYB will offer close to original feel

The shocks on my 2000 LS400 are still in great shape at 160,000 miles as were the shocks on the 90 LS400 when I sold it in 2003 at 183,500 miles. Shock aborbers on these cars can last a very long time.

besides the struts, strut mounts, and strut-rod bushings, what else would you do while it's all dangling?
control arms & bushings?
also, has anyone had any luck pressing out the balljoints?

The front suspension on my similar 2000 LS400 is vastly less troublesome than that on the 1990 LS400 I drove from new to 183,500 miles.
The only front suspension parts that have needed replacing on my 2000 LS400, which is now at 160,000 miles, have been the strut bars and bushings. By 160,000 miles on my 90 LS, the front suspension had been substantially rebuilt with new control arms, bushings and ball joints.
Replace parts only if they are worn out ... no need to flush money away on these cars.

A good mechanic can test the control arms for movement. I am in the process of doing all my bushes on my 99. Strut bars have already been done. You can get those from Lexus. Otherwise, if yours are worn then my recommendation is this. Factory upper control arms or the better aftermarket ones. Roca lower control arm bushings. Have the uppers replaced and the lowers pressed.
For the rears, use the Adus 505/5056 kit. This is what I am doing. My car has seen rough road and the suspension has worn harder.

Thanks for all the input! I had a look at the suspension while on the lift... It was suggested to me to replace the inner and outer tie rods too.I will be repairing both sides of the front suspension including struts, strut rod bushing and tie rods. DIY or Shop? Would it be any different than a 92? http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/suspe...flowerarm.html

Check out these guys.

All these are polyurethane bushings. OK for the rear but not recommended for the front. Try to stay factory / urethane bushes on the front. Poly in the front ruins the ride. Looks like Roca does not supply your year. If your struts are old I would do them too.

I just received my order of KYB front struts from StockWise. Unfortunately they sent me one EXCEL-G (Black) and one GR-2 (silver). Order placed on 01/04 received 01/10 ground shipping. Total $150.19 USD. I was disappointed they would do that so I inquired, they responded it was the only two they had in stock and offered to pay for half the shipping to ship on back without offering a replacement I've decided to keep both and have them installed ASAP as I don't want to continue driving on damaged suspension. Good thing is my mechanic will start the repairs first thing in the a.m.!

Had the front struts replaced with KYB excel/GR2 and the passenger inner/outer tie rods replaced with MOOG along with an alignment. The clunking sounding is gone and also drives very smooth. parts $300/ labor $300
