Thinking About Buying - Non-Lexus Owner

Ya avalons were built to compete with Buick and its not a good thing. Like driving inside a tired pig IMO. The maintenance on the LS isn't soo bad when to consider the frequency and schedule for maintenance. Most of the pricy items are like once every 100k miles.

i'm not slapping my forehead. the point of these discussions isn't to drive everyone to make the same decision. it's to help everyone mak informed decisions. as yu go on with the forum, you'll see the guys who think its some sort of scrilegious(?) to not go "OEM" on everything. this ncludes spending more on upper control arms and suspension parts (air bags anyone?) than the car is worth. then there are the guys who distrust everything the "stealership" says or does. there are the guys who probably have more tools and lifts than the dealer has. then you work your way down to the guys like me, who don't work on their cars beyond oil changes or speaker replacement. we don't want to put a couple grand into parts for one part of the car when its a fender bender away from a $1,500 "totalled" check. to each his or her own.
but one thing i harp on is when one starts a thread, one should use words that describe what its about, rather than generalities. even "looseness when turning" is a lot more descriptive than "got a problem". it makes it a lot easier for others to search later on. you'll understand this better when you've had to search through 9 pages of a thread only to find out it really didn't have what you were looking for. we've pretty much all done that.
good luck with your car.

Congratulations and welcome to the club. Take some pics of the interior and exterior for us and post in the thread. Don't forget to take care of the transmission with the drain and refill procedure (new drain bolt and gasket are recommended), change the differential fluid, clean the throttle body, and save for the timing belt maintenance. Does not hurt to flush the power steering pump and put in new dextron 3 fluid as well. i personally added a little Lucas oil power steering conditioner to mine to help with the seals. The o-rings are usually where the leaks starting with the PS systems.
They are such a pleasure to drive are they not?

Looking forward to seeing more pics. I think you got a good buy. I live in southern california and 99 LSs run about $8500 to $11000 depending on condition. I bought mine for about $10000 including tax and spent about $2000 to do the major service and the timing belt, water pump, and power steering which was making a whiney noise. I love the way they drive but I notice when the air conditioner is on, the car loses a lot of its power or feels strained. Otherwise, its is my everyday car to be in the field and it has $103,000 miles on it.
