Question Oil drain refill w/ filter = 4.7liters?

Manual states 5.3 liters (1991 ls400) with filter and 5.0 without filter.

I drained into oil bucket and then put it back into a jug with a see through liter reading on the side. Added up to 4.7 liters.

I put the same amount back into the car but is this correct? The dipstick is a pain in the *** to read too on a fresh change!

any tips?

After you drain it, add back what the manual tells you to and you can't go wrong. You can read the stick with fresh oil, you just have to have good light to see the oil. Change the filter every time.

added "oil" into the title.

I usually end up using 5.3-5.5 in my '99 LS, with filter change.

Was it really cold outside? Usually the whether plays a big role on the oil consistance. By the way remember some oils may burn and or become stuck in components in your engine depending on how often you do oils change and driving condition. Many factories are taking into consideration on how many qts to use.

Just did a change w/filter in my 90 and it took 5.5 quarts exactly. I wait a while for everything to drain, shake the car up and down and wait some more.
