i come from the honda world and our "RCA" is as you stated, a longer lower ball joint. on the LS however the lower ball joint is not part of the knuckle but rather it bolts onto the lower part of the knuckle. the RCA would space this out the same way a longer ball joint would in a honda effectively accomplishing the same theory.
most of the time, RCAs are used in LS400s for more front negative camber to fit wider wheels or to have that demon camber look! Kaiyin has the studio RCAs for negative camber.

I actually run a standard RCA, ~34mm thick, which leaves my camber intact/ever so slightly reduced, but greatly fixes my stroke length and bump steer issues.
