You are right everything on the search is for a 1st gen. I think if you called the service department at a Lexus dealer and politely asked they would tell you. I have called a lot of shops for stuff like that when I can't seem to find an answer online. I bet somebody on here knows how to do it though.

raise it up to its highest setting and yank it out. i just did this to install my iggee seat covers and i was scared to yank it at first, but its really how you remove it. i read somewhere to use a 2x4 and pry it up and that actually helped. to put it back in you just put it on, lower it as much as the motor will take it, then just shove it down.

The 1st gen headrest come out very easily. I wonder why the 2nd gen ones are so hard to remove.

When I reupholstered my seats, to remove the head rests I had to pull out a pin that would allow them to come off. Of course I had the leather pulled up and could easily pull the pin out. Try removing the back cover and seeing if you can reach it from there.

You mean you already had the leather cover already pulled out of the seat?

uhh last time I did it I just held the "up" adjustment and pulled up gently, and it popped off.

it was a while ago though.

EDIT: NVM, that's for the rears. front's require seatback removal afaik.

Yes, they come off in two sections (seat and back). I had cut all the hog clips and had pulled the leather up to the headrest. I didn't mention that the seat was already out of the car when i did this.

I want to say that you should be able to remove the back panel and reach up to check. It was just a simple little pin on each of the metal legs, once taken out the head rest just comes straight out.

Wanted to confirm that procedure outlined by kyddo112 works. No need to remove back plate to remove clips. I set the headrest to the highest position and pulled with the motor switch in the up position and headrest popped right out. Installed by putting downward pressure on headrest and with the motor switch in the down position. Both sides took less than one minute to remove.

What year is yours? I tried that technique in my '95 LS400 and the headrest won't budge past the highest position.

how do you remove the back of the seats? I got the two screws off the bottom and I cant find anything else. I don’t want to just yank the headrests bc it sounds like it breaks those clips I’m supposed to remove. Edit* there’s a bunch of hooks on the back plate that are hooked into the leather on both sides, and then you pull down to set the top hooks out.

5/16ths screw that holds the bottom

Metal hook that was in the leather

The last Top hooks

I don't know if the rear seat is removed the same way across all model years (you don't specify what you're working on), but attached is the procedure from the 1998 FSM.

Those pics are of the front seats. Sounds like he's try to separate the top and bottom of the front seats. But still, don't know what car it is, or why.

Attached are front seat disassembly procedure from the '98 FSM. Again, it is unknown what you're working on or if the procedures are the same across all model years. Be advised that the procedures attached are for seats with side air bags. Follow cautions when working around them.

Be advised that there are two different procedures in removing the headrests, depending on if they're powered or not.
