Any thoughts on my questions above? I never drove the car my engine came out of but I do know it was being driven since I got this engine because the car as wrecked. If the KY series won't work I will buy the KZE caps as suggested. The other part about the MEL signal is not as important. If I had to I could wire a relay to operate the main relay for the chassis but I would like to repair the ecu as a spare. Thanks.

I am not comfortable with trying to replace the caps myself. Can someone recommend a legitimate service that can do this? There are several on EBay but I don't know that I trust them. Without a working ECU I basically have a giant paperweight. I plan to take a look at the caps in a day or so to make certain but this would explain my problems (periodic loss of power to half the cylinders, air cond. cutting off, dash lighting up like a Christmas tree). No point on even looking at them though if I can't find a legit repair service. Thanks
Sorry to ask this but in the 79 pages in this thread is their a page that has a recommend rebuilders list? I know for a fact that this repair is over my head but I want the job done right. Thanks.
I found a local guy that repairs old audio equipment and re-sells. ( reel to reel, turntables, ect. ) who is willing to do the work. From his Facebook page I can see that replacement of these caps should be easy for him, and I have confidence he will do it well.
Perhaps look locally for a small electronics repair shop.

MEL is the signal from the ecu that turns on the main relay. Without it the fuel pump will not turn on and the ignition system on some cars. I don't have a meter that will test the ripple but I may have a friend who does. I'll see if he knows how to perform that test. I don't know if they are low esr or not but they are low resistance. Thanks.

You'd better not use your own word when you ask people.
Honda uses a relay called the main relay but Toyota doesn't and those 2 have different design concepts. The circuit opening relay is used to disable to run the engine stopping the 12V supply to the fuel pump to avoid the catastrophic engine failure. Search and read the FAQ page. You will be understanding it as well as the ripple test. You also will know when it disables the fuel pump to run.
Sorry to say that you are asking something irregular. You also are doing something that might cause a catastrophic engine failure without understanding the fail safe systems of the 1UZ-FE.

I'm about to purchase a 1990 Toyota Celsior UCF11 C grade. I've found that the ecu in this has a part no. 89661-50102 (Computer, Engine Control). Am I looking at the correct part?
Secondly, is the no. of capacitors in this the same as the LS400?. According to the first post this should have 11 capacitors.
1990-92 LS400 needs 10 or 11 caps as follows:
Qty. 3 of 10μF - 50v
Qty. 2 of 15μF - 35v
Qty. 3 of 47μF - 63v
Qty. 2 of 100μF - 10v
Qty. 1 of 220μF - 16v
I'm thinking of ordering these:
10uF 50V Chemi-con KZE EKZE500ELL100ME07D (replacing the current 10uF 50v)
15uF 63V Chemi-con KZE EKZE630ELL150ME11D (replacing the current 15uF 35v)
47uF 100V Chemi-con KZE EKZE101ELL470MJC5S (replacing the current 47uF 63v)

First, I got some extra ECUs from a junkyard, one for 1990 LS400, one for 1992 SC400.
The connectors on the 1990 are Soloneq 5281 type connectors. But of course, the connectors on my 1994 LS400 ECU are different! To say nothing of the SC400 ECU connector. Does anyone know what type of connectors are on these?
This would help immensely in testing ECU, learning, and ensuring ECU parts are working before offering to others.

Yes, the 1994 LS400 connector looks like this:
The plug segments on that are 34 pin, 22 pin, 16 pin and 28pin.
The older 1990 ECU has solonek style connector I mentioned earlier, sorry but I cannot find a good picture of it right now.
(connectors are 26 pin, 16 pin, 22 pin, 26 pin).

Has anyone had this capacitor issue with the SC430? I have a 2002 SC430 and am going to try this fix to see if it sorts out my ABS, Brake, VSC, VSC OFF dash lights issue. I am not getting any communication with the skid control ECU, so I'm going to try this. I also bought a spare skid control ECU of CL so I will have a backup.
Seeing as my car is 13-14 years old depending on build date, it seems like this could be the culprit to my issues. Dash lights, power steering going out, a/c on the way out, etc.

Yes most things I do can be called irregular. I understand the failsafe features. This case I am merging two harnesses into one.
