Default Low tire noise (what brand?)

I'm looking to put 255 45 18 on my ls430 rims. (I have an 96 ls400). Right now I have 255 40 18 and the profile is tow low. (I only did it cuze they were under $200 for the whole set mounted and balanced) however... They make too much road noise so...

What brand/model of tires will have less road noise on 255 45 18? Thanks

What may be quiet on one car may not be on another. Generally the Tire Rack reviews are good indicators. Among recent tires the Continental DW has been the quietest but it trammels more. The ride quality is excellent and the tire is pretty light compared to other 245/40-18's. The Yokohama S Drive was also very quiet with a slightly firmer ride characteristic. Depending on wear, I may get another set of S-Drives. The A-symmetric tread of the Continental DW does not allow them to be flipped for camber wear.

Happy shopping!

first off get the right size, 245/45-18 if you're at stock height. (incidently, also the stock size for the LS430 with those wheels).

Why get stock size 245s? I like the look the 255s give to the stock ls430 18".

The 245/45 total height is 27" while the 255/35 is 25".

According to the Tire Size Calculator, the revs per mile on the 245/45 is 779.6 versus 831.3 on the 255/35. You are about 6.6% too fast on the speedo. Also, you will have bigger wheel gaps and your mpg will get hurt.

If you don't like the thicker sidewall, you can go with 245/40, this way you are staying within 3% in the overall diameter.

No, no, no...I want 255 45 18. Not 255 35 18. I currently have 255 40 18 and they are making too much road noise when compared to the old nexen that were on the car.

I have no idea why I was thinking of 35. In that case then you should have 3% overall diameter. Get the right tire to offset the weight.

because the wheel width will remain the same and those stock LS430 wheels are pretty skinny. most 255 wheels you're going to be wanting at least an 8.5" wide wheel.
