Question Power Steering too hard to turn

My friend has a 91 LS400 and is experiencing a very hard to turn steering wheel. He had the power steering component replaced but that didnt help. the dealer told him they can't do any better.
Any ideas as to where to go from here on ? I've driven his car and his sterring is def. much more harder to turn than mine.

Default Rack or fluid

Ive been told the rack can go bad after a Power steeringpump replacement. I have also noticed that the car is fluid level sensitive, check that its full. Good luck, if you find a way to lighten the steering, post it.

HI

If the screen in the power steering rack is clogged the pressure will stay to high and your car will seem hard to steer.

Find someone to pull the screen and clean it, some of the first Gens had plastic screens that could be melted if a harsh chemical was used to clean them.

Default more info

Thanks for the info. I plan on taking that car to a priv mechanic. Can I get some more info on the Power Steering screen. Where is it located. and can this be a DIY job ? or is it more involved ?

May be it the rack that needs to be replace but check the screen like everyone said. And NEVERgo to that dealer again for anything. A Lexus dealer can't figure out what's wrong with a Lexus . Mightas well have a local shop fix it with cheaper labor rate

I have taken the P/S pump out. Its a lot of work. If you're mechanical inclide, I say go for it. Do you have tools? You have to take a lot of parts out to get to the pump itself. The shop will do the same but you be paying $60+/hour for the labor. This way you get to learn how your car put together. Remember to take the battery negative cable out before any work...

You might want to check the PS sensor. The PS in LS is speed sensitive. The faster you go, the hard the steering. Low speed should have light steering. Secondly, does you car make a funny noise if you make quick turns?

Add one more to your possible culprit list: power steering ECU
