Default 1999 LS400 Shift **** Replacement (How To?)

Had to purchase a used shifter **** as the wood slit and came off. How do you replace it? I thought that perhaps you turn the silver part at the bottom of the housing but I did that til the cows came home but never did. There is no OD button or anything like that. Just a plain old stock gear shifter. Anyone that can help is appreciated. Thanks!

Seems pretty snug. Afraid I will really break something. I assume its counterclockwise to remove? Better safe than sorry. I have had some things be the opposite. Thanks for the response.....

if it's never been taken off it will feel really snug, but if it's broken anyways you don't realy have anything to worry about do you?

comes off counterclockwise like any other nut.

but DO be careful when putting the new one on. It is possible to overtighten and break the damn thing so tighten it to the point that there just seems to be resistance, then only go further to make it point straight.

Mind if I ask where you procured the shift **** and for how much? I just got a '98 LS400 yesterday and mine needs to be replaced. Most of the ones on ebay are really pricey. Looking for OEM if possible so it matches the rest of the wood grain.

I can also confirm mine just twisted right off.

Thanks,

Rasta -

I have a 1998 also and the wood on my shifter **** came apart. The part number for the **** in my trim is 33542-50050-C0 and the best price that I have found is $516. I bought a $20 **** on eBay that matches the wood very closely.

RX ***** will need some modification, the silver trim on the bottom is slightly too small to fit over the shifter shaft. the thread is fine though.

ebay and the classifieds.

I've had an eBay search saved for more than a year for that part with not one hit. I did recently find the center AC vent for $10 for a search that I started at the same time so I haven't lost hope.

try craigslist. my car didn't come with the wood wheel/wood shifter option ('98 LS400), but i kept searching and found the OEM shift **** for $60 (better than $100+ for OEM on ebay).
