I'd look on craigslist or something, sometimes you can find the factory wheels for like 200 or something, throw them on, and get that thing towed somewhere else. Or even tell that dude you won't sue him if he hooks you up with some wheels and battery and all that

you can't do anything until you get a set of real LS400 wheels & tires

there is a set I found online at S & E Towing and Salvage in Jackson 601-944-1537
and another set at G and S Import Automotive in Jackson 601-352-9118

some even cheaper if you want to go 100 or so miles away

you can get NEW Bridgestone made Fuzion tires at TIRERACK for $64 each

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I looked at the pics and this car could likely be gotten running in an hour or two - he apparently, from the pics, has done practically nothing so far, so it will be easy to get back together, all I can see that he has essentially done of the timing belt/water pump job is to remove the fan & fan shroud
I would save the towing bill and get it running right there on the spot - you will need:
5-6 gallons of fresh gas (have to siphon & discard the 2 year old gas)
a new battery (the original battery is shot from sitting around for 2 years)
lift supports (you need them anyway - working on a car without these is just stupid)
a nice aluminum floor jack
the 4 wheels & tires mentioned above, already mounted & balanced
starting fluid
lug nuts
a set of basic tools for reinstalling the fan shroud/fan
possibly the fan bolts, if you think he has lost them
lug wrench
siphon hose
If the OP's question were: "hey, I can get this car for free. Is it worth it to get it running, with all these problems ....", I think the answer would be: No way.
276k+ miles, no wheels, body damage, engine apart, abandoned for 1+ years, no battery, ... You'll find better cars in junk yards. Sorry about the tough situation, and I won't comment on the deal / legal issue, but as far as the car goes, it is not worth fixing.
I'm glad that someone finally went there. If you have kudzu growing up the side of your car it probably isn't worth the salvage price. Strip the parts that can be sold off and leave the rest of it for your "friend" to deal with.
I dont know, i think it might be worth getting it running. Not from a resale point but a sentimental point. I would say buy 4 cheap wheels and get it towed, find someone you know that has a flatbed or pay a company. I wouldnt really bother with the legal side of it, be lucky your car is there still. Either route you go good luck man!
Well its hard to part with it so for now im gonna go the rebirth route. Im willing to take a chance. I have been thru hell and back with this vehicle and I just want it running one last time so I can at least part it out under working conditions. Unless someone wants to make me an offer right now at its current state. Keep the great ideas coming. Going to look for some dummy wheels this week and go really CHECK this guy. cause I am totally pissed beyond belief about it and how relaxed I have been. Mainly becuase I have other family issues I have had to deal with in the 1 year of it being down.
Free labor is worthless if the labor is never done.......
If he hasn't done anything in over a year I'm not so confident he will in the next year either.
Throw some wheels on and slap it back together and pay someone honest.
