1990 LS400 worn out bushing
Hi all, first post here.
I have a 1990 LS400 with about 190,000 miles on it.
I took the car out the other day and heard violent clanking from the rear passenger side.
I went to the local Midas and was told that the bushings on the Rear Driver and Passenger sides had worn out. He quoted me at $450-500 worth of labor and said that I would have to find the parts myself, as he wasn't able to track them down locally.
I live in New York, but go to school in Pennsylvania. I am good friends with a mechanic at home in New York who would be able to get the parts for me and do the labor for a lot cheaper (poor college student). Also, I am done with classes on the 21st and was hoping to drive home then.
The question is, would I be able to drive it home 253 miles on worn out rear bushings? or would I risk damaging the car further? It's pretty much all highway.
I attached the diagram Midas gave me.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: The guy at Midas also told me that I would need to buy two new spindles (part 3), and not just the bushings themselves. Is this true?

do it yourself for a fraction of the cost.
searching for "rear carrier bushing" in the LS400 forum will bring up a ton of info.
here's a DIY link from what we call the 1LS Bible:

You should be safe to drive it home but it will not be kind to your tires lol

This is one of the easiest bushings on the car to change. ADUS makes the two-piece bushing that fits right in there. I used a drill/large channel lock pliers and sawzall to remove the old bushings, they are usually completely shot and not difficult to remove. Again, if you need any set of bushings changed on your 400, be glad that it's these two.
