Default 94 LS400 for $1100 w/ slipping transmission

Someone is selling a 1994 LS400 in "Good" to "Very Good" condition (inside and out) for $1100. They claim the transmission is slipping sometimes so they believe they need to replace it. He told me they never changed the transmission oil.

I'm thinking it's the wrong fluid, a clogged screen, or ecu caps.

I was considering driving the 250 miles, along with a jack, jack stands, some type t-iv transmission fluid, a soldering iron and handful of ECU caps.

Do you think it'd be too risky to go ahead and buy it and try to fix it down there (in a day) so i can drive it back 250 miles? It has less than 180,000 miles -- i doubt that transmission is bad.

if its just slipping, I don't think it'd be too dangerous to drive it that far, but don't quote me on it. My guess is going to be bad solenoids

in this case budget yourself for replacing the trans. You have no idea what's in that pandora's box so while it could be needing just a fluid swap and filter cleaning it could just as easily have fried clutches from running the wrong fluid.

I talked to the guy on the phone and he said he is going to text me some more pics. He told me the inside looks really good and the outside looks really good except for the white right fender and a dent on the hood near the right front fender (it was in a small collision)--he said the frame was not bent (I asked him).

I told him I was 250 miles away and for him to tell me everything that is wrong with it before I come all that way and he did tell me about the fender and hood. He said everything else was really good.

We'll see how it looks in the pics.

Btw, I like the silver I already have a white 98 ls400 and $1100 is so cheap! My brother can do the tranny swap if i get him a used trans (he just doesn't know this yet, lol).
