I didn't get mileage that bad even when I took my LS to the drag strip, something's wrong with yours.

When you WOT your LS gas mileage will be around 10-11mpg, thats a fact.. highway cruising will be around 21 ish.. i drive very very aggressively.. so even on the highway i average around 18ish.. i just got the car, so i'm still on my first tank, but i've been testing what the engine can do and so far its around 10.1 haha.. my bud's got a 98 and the way he drives his gas mileage is even worse. I'm sure once i get bored of the car i'll start to drive it normally and i'll get around 18-19mpg

Hard to imagine. I've driven my similar 2000 LS400 124,000 miles since I purchased in 2003 at 38,000 miles and I've rarely had a tank average under 19 mpg - and I've often driven it very hard. I just checked my log book and saw that I've averaged over 20 mpg and sometimes well over that on my last 11 tank fulls. (I've kept track of every gallon of gas used in over 1,000,000 miles of driving.)

On long Interstate trips at 65-70 mph, my 00 LS usually averages between 26.5 and 27.5 mpg -- sometimes a little less with a headwind and over 30 mpg with a stiff tailwind when driving from Tulsa to Kansas City.

By the way, "power mode" has no effect on either gas mileage or acceleration times -- well documented in automobile magazine tests of LS400's during the 1990's.

well, i've never officially filled up the tank yet, it had about 1/10th left of the tank when i got it, i filled it up to half way and have been WOTing the car for awhile (just having some fun with it), i guess i'll fill it up and see how it averages under normal driving conditions. BTW I find it hard to believe that power mode does nothing, there seems to be a lot more aggressive shifting especially on first and second gear while under power mode. Also throttle response seems definitely more responsive which leads to a quicker 60 time, at least that is what it feels like. I was racing my friend's 2010 TL and with it off, we were neck and neck, under power mode i took him off the line and stayed half a length ahead.

Auto magazines found that accelerration times were identical under full throttle whether the switch was in normal or Power mode. Power mode provides a slight improvement in acceleration under partial throttle application but that is only because people tend to not press the accelerator pedal hard enough ... a little like the 2000-up LS4xx "brake assist" feature in reverse.

Which makes logical sense WOT is WOT no matter what mode you are in. If power mode causes the car to hang onto lower gears a bit longer I could see a little less mpg but my tank average is never less then 20.

any figures you have for partial tanks are going to be pointless. run a couple tanks through the car and then you'll see what your actual mileage is.

Worst I got driving my LS' aggressively was in the 13-15ish range. (the joy of free drag racing.)

Nice car and the "everything done at the stealership" "and second owner" is well worth the little extra you paid. Another easy 100k if you keep up the maintenance.
