Could a bad ECU cause the car to shift hard into drive or reverse?
absolutely, the ECU also controls the transmission and shifting - my caps got so bad in my ECU before i realized that's what the problem was, that it eventually wouldn't shift at all - you could manually shift it only!

a high idle, say 1200rpm or higher can also give a hard shift into drive or reverse, as can solenoid issues

Pulled the ECU out today. Everything looked OK visually. I guess that it could still be possibly messed up though.

Well, I think I may have found the issue. I found some wires behind the serpentine belt that have been rubbing against it. If anybody knows what these two wires are for, please let me know if this could be the issue. I'm hopefully gonna have the time to fix this tomorrow. Car has been sitting at work for about a week now.

we need a photo to know which wires you are referring to, but this sounds like a good candidate to explain the issues you were having!

already fixed today, thanks for the input and advice. the two wires went into the engine block and looked like they went to a coil on the other end.
