You are right though, if you have the car set on cruise control on the highway, it doesn't matter what mode the transmission is in, it'll consume the same amount of gas (as long as the gear and rpm's are the same).

Back on topic, I always set my car to snow mode for driving around town. Improves traction a bit in the winter and makes starting off super smooth. I usually switch it to normal mode I'm driving onthe highway and it makes the LS feel like a rocket after being used to the throttle response on snow mode.
You can do that with simple throttle control. Just pretend you have an egg between the throttle and your foot. But if you have no dicipline I guess you can let the electronics do it for you. And as far as I know snow does start in second gear.

Well I did a few test and you do start in first gear. Essentially, if you are very easy on the throttle in normal mode you can achieve the same thing. Also at full throttle you do not get 100% of the power.

yes i do realize that snow mode starts the car in 2nd gear, i'm not stupid lol. it's better than having a "jumpy" start if you will. i'm too used to the acceleration in snow mode that when it's in normal mode, i would launch my car from every stop and go.

and it's more precise imo using snow mode on the highway. when you step on the gas, it slowly but surely gets to the desired speed vs getting there with higher rpms.

Lol I usually use pwr mode with trac off when it rains...and so much more of a beast. I live in Atlanta so haven't needed to use snow mode yet..but next road trip I will try snow mode out. The most I got out of normal mode on hwy driven to FL was 460miles to the tank. So lets see on my next trip.

Well I tried snow mode going to work today. No better mileage whatsoever. I think I will stick to me controlling the throttle.
