Rear tire wear 1999 LS400
Hi everyone,
Saw your website while cruising the net trying to fix a BIG problem.
Purchased stock 1999 LS400 with 60k miles in August 2006
Lowered with H&R springs and KYB shocks @ 60,000 miles.
Installed Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 235/50 18" with Moda rims in August 2006.
All was peachy; no fender well rub, no irregular tire wear.
Replaced Michelin's with new set ( same tire) @ 120,000 miles.
At 180,000 miles, started to notice irregular rear tire wear ( inside edge).
Replaced front/rear shocks ( local Mr Tire; recommended installer by Tire Rack) with the VERY SAME KYB shocks @ 193,000 miles AND a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus. Had an alignment performed.
This is when my current problems started: extreme tire rub in front fender wells when cornering; especially at lower speeds. Rotated the tires @200,000 and EXTREME inside rear tire wear.
Took the car to another shop for alignment; very slight adjustments made.
Now, @ 209,000 miles, I am seeing that the rear's are down to threads, inside edge.
So, WTF do I do with this situation !!
Saw a set of rear lower camber arms at Meghan ( MRS-LX-0420) for $210.00; is this my solution ?

Welcome to Club Lexus.
With that level of mileage, have your mechanic inspect all the suspension bushings.
Post up the alignment settings so we can see what the tech dialed in.
The drop on HR springs is mild, the neg camber up front should be less than -1.25 and rear about same. Seems to me toe would be off and with the slight neg camber it is causing more wear.
Additionally the direct fit tire is 245/45-18. A 235/50-18 has an inch larger diameter 27.3". The OEM 225/60-16 comes in at 26.2". Combined with wheel offset and shoulder shape, these new tires will definitely be a problem depending how aggressive a wheel fitment you have.

Here is my dilemma; had no problems with rub in front wheel wells until ( nearly 120,000 miles later) after the shocks were replaced 15,000 miles ago.

Also; had all the rear bushings checked ( in fact, had ALL the front/rear suspension links/bushings checked)
Any ideas on my rear lower camber arms remarks ?
Thanks !

Hey drifter,
There really isn't much room for clearance in front or rear; the problem now is pronounced rub, especially when I am the only occupant of car, in the front driver's wheel well/fender.
I am totally frustrated here; have had two alignments ( by 2 different shops), had all the suspension links checked( front/rear) by a third mechanic with a big-azz metal bar.

sounds to me like a compromised bushing somewhere. the car would align just fine but when driving would wander around causing uneven tire wear.
could it be that the installer installed the shocks incorrectly causing a slight variation in height prior? i would stay away from megan arms for now.
