One thing I have wondered though is

1. What the heck is in the Beat Sonic mystery box (Beat-Sonic SLA-20AD)?
I dunno. Magic Lexus Amplifier beans, maybe

2. Is it actually worth $225+ taxes and shipping? (I understand this question is relative)
Well since I paid $280 for mine... I guess it is!

3. Is it feasible to make one yourself?

Until someone opens one up we'll never know. But I see it as money spent to save time and effort (which is why I was annoyed that it didn't include the bullet connectors I needed). If I was willing to make one myself, I'd probably be just as willing to replace the factory amp so I wouldn't have needed it!

I'm definitely going to replace my whole system when it goes. With the Nakamichi you don't have much of a choice. It's a pain but everyone says it's the best way to go.

i'm guessing it's got some chips set up to emulate the factory headunit's data signals to the amp so the sub keeps firing, making the amp think it's taking in standard line input from the OEM headunit.

Nice job OP! I just bought myself a 1998 LS400 (after my RX300 got totaled) and was looking for a step by step guide on how to install a aftermarket HU. Saving this thread for future reference! Thanks!

Hey spuds, what model Alpine head unit do you have? I am a Flagship Alpine dealer, so if you give me the model number or post a pic of your radio, I can help you figure out what you need.

Yes you can add an auxiliary input to your Alpine headunit. It will require you to remove it from the dash and add what is called an Ai-Net adapter. The original Alpine part number is KCA-121B. An alternative part number that will work from PAC is the AAI-ALPA. Either part will add stereo RCA inputs to your older, albeit very good, Alpine Ai-Net receiver. After the input plug is connected to the back of your Alpine, you will have to access the setup menu to turn the input on. You access this menu by pressing and holding the function/setup button, which is located at about 4 o'clock from the volume ****. You will find the auxiliary setting in this setup menu. Simply toggle the input to on after you've plugged in the interface adpater, and you will be good to go.

Hope this helps,
Lee

Those units pre-date any mass media storage playback. That part you listed should also work if you are wanting the end terminated with a 3.5 mm plug, it's just from a no-name manufacturer. You will still need to follow the same auxiliary input turn-on procedure in your radio's setup menu.

I was out playing with the radio earlier and got into all the mode things, saw the aux section.Yep,little too old for digital inputs, kinda figured but never know.Yes,I want to plug into a headphone jack on an Ipod style music player, beats hauling around a ton of cd's for sure.
Thanks again Lee.

In order to set up external additional audio input pins, I analysed the audio board of my 98 UCF21 Celsior with a navi to find out where to connect. Attached photo below shows those pins to connect external L and R signals. I have posted the detail somewhere in this forum but I can't find it now. Those 98-00 owners of a navi model who want to have additional input, this may be one of ideas.

Why did you used that Beatsonic adapter? Isn't just possible to connect RCA outputs from your new headunit to stock amplifier?
