Default KYB Sb104 rear boot is not the correct part

SB104

I just changed my rear shocks keeping the factory setup on my 1996 LS 400 and found that........

KYB Sb104 rear boot is not the correct part for this. It does not have the thick rubber flange that the originals do, and has no means of holding it in place even if it is used. Wish now I would have gotten the Lexus part. I managed to cut up the old boot and mate it to the WRONG boot in a way that should be fine but still I'm peeved at KYB for selling the wrong parts.

KYB #s FOR THE REAR 341269 for the shock is a good number as is SM5177 for the top mount are good numbers.

From KYB's website:

The old shocks were a little weak but not as bad as I would expect and the top mounts were still in good shape but I installed the new ones since I already had them. The springs were in good condition still and everytheing came apart and went back together OK.

Yes, i noticed the boots kyb sells don't fit like they say. Not sure why unless they are meant for another model.

just because they don't fit the exact way as stock doesn't mean they won't work?

Can you show a picture if you used them? Didn't they send some zip ties with the boots? They fit but are much shorter than oem. Right?

If doing away with the rubber between the spring and top mount, having no way to hold them in place, and being too short is Ok then sure they will work. Point is they are not the right boot for the shock.

I have no pictures and no they did not supply anything with them. I cut my old boots leaving the rubber flange between the shock and top mount and a couple of the old ribs( or whatever they are called ) and pushed the new boot in. NOT happy with KYB but at that point I needed to get the car back together and had to improvise.

The reason for this post is to help others know that the KYB boot SB104 is not the CORRECT part if they are considering changing the rear shocks and keeping the original setup.
