Upgraded to the LS430

Extremely clean and very, very sharp looking. Excellent choice and great find. I'm like you somewhat... couldn't decide so I have both...but mostly drive the LS400 when I'm not in the 4Runner. Love the UL package... enjoy it. See you on the LS430 forum...

104k miles. I paid 18,5. They were originally asking 24. It was purchased from the same Lexus dealer that serviced it since new. Honestly, I think it is a good deal considering it was a single owner with almost every service imaginable at the Lexus dealer. I saw other cars that were similar for a little less but none has the service history this one had. 19 pages long on Lexus Drivers. I do love the color of the interior / exterior but the service history and condition is was what really sold me.

Nice! Loving the colors - makes me want to upgrade my LS400 even though I have had it less than a year!!
How does the Leather compare to the LS400? I am not a big fan of the leather in my car.
Also, does the trans still suck at low speeds in stop n go traffic??

Yes, the transmission is better at lower speeds. Mine was never that bad in my 99 but every once in a while it would downshift hard trying to figure out if 1st or 2nd was the right gear and kind of whip your head back. One trick is to put the 400 in snow mode if it is really becoming annoying. This helps some.
The 04 - 06 are the better of the 430's because of the 6 speed. I'm actually averaging better mpg in the 430 doing 30% city and 70% highway on average. The 400 can get slightly better mpg then the 6 speed 430 imo but you have to drive it really slow on the highway. Like 60 mph or right at 2000 rpm's. 2000 rpm's on the 04 is between 70 - 75 mph. My 430 gets better mpg at 70 mph then it does at 60 mpg. It seems like 2000 rpm's is usually the sweet spot for best mpg. On the way home from my brother house last night I put the laser cruise on for 40 miles at 72 mph and averaged 28.4 mpg all the way home. Not bad for a heavy car. Just like the 400, these love higher octane fuel. It's worth running 93 just for mpg alone.

Congrats, beautiful looking car. And thanks for the tip on snow mode. I'll try that on the stop and go highway today. I should have thought of that because I live on a gravel road and have learned to use snow mode when pulling out onto the main paved road, to prevent the wheels from spinning on the gravel as I pull out.

Thanks for the info! My LS400 gets better mpg at 65-70 actually but the car calculates 2mpg better than what I get with pen/paper- say 26mpg I am actually only getting 24 with pen/paper. I don't do as much highway driving now that I moved closer to work and have been getting a miserable 20-21 mpg :c
I have done the trans drain/fill once so far and will be due for another on the next oil change. Also JUST did the trans mount so I am hoping that alleviated the delay I felt when I put it in R after it has been parked overnight.
That said, I am really tempted to test drive a 430. It's turning radius is not as good but it has more trunk room and seems like it is easier to find aftermarket parts. Probably will keep my 400 though- at least in the family.

door331 - I think you will really like the 430. I personally like the body style of the 400 better, but that is a matter of taste. Other than that, I can't think of anything about the 400 that I like better.
Oh, yes, 2 things:
1. I thought I would like the shift gate, but after some experience, I don't care for it at all.
2. I very much liked the polished metal intake manifold, etc.of the 400. I dislike the 430's plastic shield (which I assume they did to save money since the engine parts would not have to be as pretty = nicely finished).
